Magda Soboń procura nas suas concepções artísticas uma tarefa (im)possível: o significado da existência. Universal e íntima. Com uma forma laboriosa, quase meditativa do pensar-fazer-pensar aporta-nos a uma hipótese de génese da criação. Tudo o que corporifica – matéria e pensamento –, obedece à sua intenção criando uma ordem em si e nas peças que cria. O médium – papel – não podia ser outro e o acto da criação começa, como um acto de compulsão, e procurando um processo cognitivo assente na sensorialidade do toque. Inicia-se com a escolha das fibras adequadas, explorando as suas possibilidades e limites, retirando-lhe tudo até que se esgotem, para que assim possam fazer parte de uma nova criação – expondo a sua condição efémera e a suscetibilidade que conduzem a uma destruição inevitável. O seu processo de trabalho confere existência mas destrói logo de seguida, única forma da constatação dessa mesma existência universal. Neste jogo antagónico e duplo a memória assume uma função: a de contributo concreto para a criação.

Magda Soboń formou-se na Academia de Belas Artes Strzemiński em Łódź, Polónia, Faculdade de Têxteis e Vestuário. Atualmente é professora do Paper Studio na sua alma mater. Ela trabalha com o papel artesanal, têxteis e gráfica. Participou em inúmeras exposições na Polónia e no exterior. É vencedora de alguns prémios de prestígio, entre outros: O prémio concedido pelo “Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship” no 11º Baltic Mini Textile em Gdynia em 2019, Menção honrosa na 1ª Bienal de Arte Têxtil em Poznań em 2017. Menção honrosa na Contextile 2016 – Bienal de Arte Têxtil Contemporânea em Portugal em 2016, Grande Prémio da 14ª Trienal Internacional de Tapeçaria em Łódź em 2013; Menção de Excelência na 7ª Bienal Internacional de Fiber Art – De Lausanne a Pequim na China em 2012; Menção honrosa na 6ª Bienal Internacional de Arte Têxtil Contemporânea do México em 2011; Medalha de Bronze na 6ª Bienal Internacional de Fiber Art – De Lausanne a Pequim, na China, em 2010.
FROM EXISTENCE – UNIVERSAL AND INTIMATE
Magda Soboń seeks in her artistic conceptions an (in)possible task: the meaning of existence. Universal and intimate.
With a laborious way of work, almost meditative approach to thinking-making-thinking, the artist offered a hypothesis of the genesis of creation. Everything that embodies – matter and thought – obeys its intention of creating an order in itself and in the pieces she creates. The medium – paper – could not be any other and the act of creation begins, as an act of compulsion, and looking for a cognitive process based on the sensoriality of touch. It begins with the choice of the appropriate fibbers, exploring its possibilities and limits, removing everything from it until they are exhausted, so that they can be part of a new creation – exposing its ephemeral condition and susceptibility that lead to an inevitable destruction. Her working-process confers existence but destroys right after, the only way of verifying that same universal existence. In this antagonistic and double game, memory takes on a role: that of making a concrete contribution to creation.

Magda Soboń graduated from the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland Faculty of Textiles and Clothing. Currently, professor at the Paper Studio in her alma mater. She deals with the handmade paper, textile and graphics. She participated in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad. She is a winner of some prestigious awards among others: The Prize granted by the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship at 11th Baltic Mini Textile in Gdynia in 2019, Honorable mention at 1st Biennale of Textile Art in Poznań in 2017.
